What is Diabetes?

“Diabetes is a chronic, often debilitating and sometimes fatal disease, in which the body either cannot produce insulin or cannot properly use the insulin it produces. Insulin is a hormone that controls the amount of glucose in the blood. Diabetes leads to high levels of glucose in the blood, which can damage organs, blood vessels and nerves. The body needs insulin to use glucose as an energy source” (The Canadian Diabetes association – you may read more here).

So, what can you do to prevent or to treat diabetes? the answer is: many things! Changing your lifestyle is a major. Food, exercise, sleep, yoga and meditation to reduce stress. A lot!

So, what is a true Diet for Diabetes?

Diet for diabetes is not a diet without sugar and sweets necessarily. It’s more about diet without harmful fats that are mostly consumed from animal products and processed food. It’s about eating mostly plant based diet that is as raw as possible (about 70% raw and up). Is it too difficult? well, it may be better then suffer from this horrible disease… and of course, eating plant based diet will help you feel much more energized, happy and healthy!

Some of you may say that diabetes is genetic and there is nothing they can do about it… well guys, genes can be awaken or stay asleep… in most cases, it’s up to your life-style and food choices if you will wake these genes up or not!

Other people tell me the great story about the man that ate chocolates and bacon (not necessarily together…) all their life and reached the age of 90… I’m sure you heard those stories. Let’s not forget that if a person is 90 years old today, it means that at least until the age of 60 they ate organic foods as this is what was then… before all the GMOs, hormones and antibiotics that the animals are getting today and that are found in most of our food.
