This is a nice upgrade to white rice. You can apply it to other kinds of rice of course, but so far this one has been the most delicious (for me).
What you need:
2 cups white basmati rice
2 spoons canola oil
3 cups filtered water
salt to taste
2 spoons cumin seeds
10 cardamom seeds
About 5 anise stars
If you have tea-less tea bags that you can use (I mean empty bags), it’s great to use one as a cooking bag for the cardamom seeds and the anise stars so that you can cook them with the rice and then pull them out at once as you are not suppose to eat them.
What to do:
Fry the rice in the oil for a minute.
Add the cumin seeds, water and salt. Stir well and fry for another minute.
Add the water. Stir.
Add the empty tea bag that is now filled with cardamom seeds and the anise stars. If you don’t have such a bag, simply count how many cardamom seeds and anice stars you have and them add them to the rice.
Bring to boil with cover, then lower the heat and leave half covered until water are gone (about 10 minutes).
Turn off the heat and cover completely. Leave covered for another 5 minutes.
Open the cover and pull out the cardamom seeds and anise stars. If you remember how many you put in, most chances you will forget one inside…
Serve hot. If you like your plate to look somewhat impressive, put the rice in any kind of small bowl, tight the rice well, and then simply turn the bowl upside down on the serving plate, so it will have a nice shape. Garnish with anise stars and cardamom seeds!
Can be served as a side dish or by itself.
